UPSC Women Statistics
Civil services, like many other fields, has long remained male-dominated. In the late 1980s and
early
1990s, selected women were below 20 percent. In 2006, the selected women candidates were around 20
percent.
The percentage of selected women candidates by UPSC has increased from 24 percent in 2018 to 34
percent in 2022.
In 2022, women claimed the top 4 ranks in UPSC and 14 women qualified in the top 25.
In Civil Services (Main) Examination 2017, maximum 31.8% of the female candidates appeared from the
age group of 24-26 years. In 2019, the highest percentage (32.3%) of the female candidates
recommended were also from the age group of 24-26 years.
During 2013 to 2017, the success rate of female candidates who were selected in UPSC was double when
compared to the male candidates.
A greater percentage of Women candidates cleared the Civil Services Examination, 2019 in less number
of attempts as compared to men.
